Unlocking LinkedIn: A Guide for Introverts to Thrive Online

Chapter 1: Understanding Introversion and LinkedIn
For a long time, I believed my serious demeanor was a flaw. In fact, I've been labeled as 'too serious' on several occasions throughout my life.
While reading "The Introvert's Way" by Sophia Dembling, I realized that many of my reactions and traits stem from my introverted nature. For instance, when someone tries to drag me onto the dance floor, I often resist, thinking, 'I prefer to choose if and when I dance.' Initially, I thought this was just stubbornness, but now I understand it's simply a part of being an introvert.
I also find small talk quite unappealing. Engaging in trivial conversation feels more like an uncomfortable filler rather than meaningful interaction. As an introvert, I am not only okay with silence; I actually embrace it.
Additionally, I’ve come to dislike platforms like Facebook for similar reasons. The excessive small talk combined with a lack of substantive discussions often leads to drama, which I find draining. In contrast, LinkedIn is different.
While I might roll my eyes at polls about favorite pizza toppings—clearly attempts to game the engagement algorithm—I appreciate that the general content on LinkedIn is informative and engaging. This platform offers valuable resources that can enhance my skills and support my business growth.
Spending time on LinkedIn has proven beneficial for my business, presenting opportunities for growth if I engage thoughtfully. So, what does it mean to effectively use LinkedIn?
The approach varies significantly between introverts and extroverts.
