Chapter 1: Introduction to Earning with UI/UX Design
If you're interested in generating additional income, you've come to the right place. This guide will walk you through a straightforward method to potentially earn $500 by selling your UI/UX designs.
Here’s a quote that captures the essence of creativity: "Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works." - Steve Jobs
Section 1.1: The Basics of UI/UX Design
Many readers have expressed a desire for a more in-depth exploration of side hustles since my last article. Thus, I’m excited to offer you this detailed guide on the lucrative world of UI design.
Rest assured, earning through UI design is entirely feasible, and I'll show you how to do it without any upfront costs for learning or selling your creations.
It’s important to note that this article is not sponsored; my goal is simply to provide valuable information that can help you enhance your skills and start earning.

Subsection 1.1.1: Learning UI/UX Design Skills
To effectively create and market your designs, familiarity with design principles is crucial. If you are a web developer, designer, or graphic artist, you’re already ahead of the curve. For those who are not, numerous online resources and YouTube channels can assist you in acquiring these skills.
Channels like freeCodeCamp and DesignCourse offer excellent tutorials that can help you get started. Initially, I was more inclined towards web development, but I soon realized that design plays a significant role in user experience. Users may not notice the programming languages or frameworks used, but they will certainly appreciate an aesthetically pleasing and functional website.
After realizing this, I took the plunge to enhance my design knowledge.
Section 1.2: Applying Your Knowledge
It’s essential to apply what you learn; otherwise, skills can fade over time. Every time I acquire new knowledge, I strive to implement it, which adds value to my skill set and can also lead to financial gain.
I chose Figma as my design tool because it’s free and widely adopted among designers. Although other platforms like Adobe XD and Sketch are available, they often come with costs. Figma allows you to access numerous features without any financial investment.
Chapter 2: Selling Your Designs
Once you've honed your skills, the next step is to sell your work. Initially, you may find it challenging to land jobs, as clients are unaware of your capabilities. This is where you can kick off your side hustle.
Instead of discarding your designs, consider uploading them to various online marketplaces. My go-to platforms include Themeforest and Creative Market, among others.
For instance, I visited Themeforest and searched for Figma UI layouts. I discovered that templates were listed for prices ranging from $19 to $32. Take the Rocketboard UI template, priced at $32, which has already sold 289 times—yielding the designer a remarkable $9,248 (after accounting for platform fees).
Isn't that impressive? You can achieve similar success by refining your designs and sharing them on these platforms. However, avoid rushing to sell any half-baked ideas; focus on practicing and enhancing your skills until your designs provide real value to potential buyers.
This guide may seem basic, but it’s straightforward enough for anyone to follow. Don’t hesitate—start your journey today!
