Chapter 1: Understanding the Big Snooze
What is the concept of the Big Snooze? I recently delved into Jen Sincero's inspirational book, "You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life." This remarkable read has profoundly changed my perspective on life. Sincero emphasizes that every individual possesses an innate badassery. She encourages us to recognize our greatness and understand that the universe is on our side, guiding us at every turn. All we need to do is believe in ourselves and manifest our desires.
Sincero also identifies an internal barrier that often holds us back—fear. This fear, which she refers to as the Big Snooze (or BS), makes us hesitant, causing us to linger in our comfort zones filled with "What if?" questions. It’s crucial to take that leap of faith.
Achieving your dreams requires courage. Sincero notes that life might feel chaotic when you're on the right path. However, it’s essential to ensure you are moving toward your aspirations. Challenges, mockery, and setbacks may arise, but these experiences are signs of growth. Eventually, you’ll reach your desired destination, and in hindsight, you’ll recognize that the hard work was worth it.
Chapter 2: My Journey to Overcoming the Big Snooze
Having always identified as an INFJ, I often felt disconnected from others. My job was unfulfilling, and I sensed that it wasn't aligned with my life's purpose. Stagnation plagued me; I was merely going through the motions.
As humans, we aspire to achieve greatness and improve our lives. For years, I grappled with self-doubt, fearing I would remain stuck in my current situation indefinitely. I worried that I might eventually surrender to a life unfulfilled, unable to muster the courage to pursue my true aspirations or foster meaningful relationships. However, I finally took a significant step: I resigned from my previous job.
Now, I find myself in a role that excites me, back in my hometown, singing in a choir, socializing with new friends, and even preparing to launch my first business. I feel confident that I’m on the right track.
Chapter 3: The Importance of Planning and Manifestation
Pursuing your dreams is undeniably challenging. Nobody claims it will be easy; expect ups and downs along the way. You might experience hesitation frequently, as I have. I often sought the path of least resistance, which led me to prioritize planning.
Procrastination is a common struggle, but I've discovered that effective planning keeps me focused and motivated. I set both short-term and long-term goals, block out time daily, and track my habits. Breaking down my goals into actionable steps with deadlines has been immensely helpful.
Plans may need to shift due to unforeseen circumstances. When that happens, I adapt and create a new strategy.
Next comes the act of manifestation. This can involve meditation, prayer, or positive affirmations—anything that reinforces your belief in achieving your dreams. I particularly resonate with Sincero’s affirmation: "The Universe is Great, So am I." I repeat this phrase to internalize it.
Finally, it's essential to trust the process. At times, progress may feel stagnant, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t growing. Keep track of your achievements, no matter how minor, and remember that even a 1% improvement is significant.
Chapter 4: Looking Ahead
This journey is just beginning for me. There are countless aspirations I still wish to pursue, people I want to connect with, and places I dream of visiting. While I know challenges and more instances of BS will arise, I am committed to planning, manifesting, and trusting the process as I work toward my goals.
