Born on January 17, 1957, in Welch, West Virginia, Steve was the youngest of five siblings in a family led by a coal miner. The family later moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he completed his high school education before returning to West Virginia for college.

After graduating, he juggled various jobs—boxer, auto mechanic, insurance salesman, carpet cleaner, and mailman—before discovering his true passion for comedy in 1985. For three years, from ages 30 to 33, Steve traveled with his wife and two children, often living in their car and facing food scarcity. His parents were unaware of his struggles; he felt unable to share his situation with his mother, and his father had instilled in him a strong belief that once you leave home, you can't return.

From 1996 to 2002, Steve starred in his own sitcom, The Steve Harvey Show, which connected him with fellow comedians Cedric the Entertainer, Bernie Mac, and DL Hughley during the Kings of Comedy tour. This tour became the highest-grossing comedy tour in U.S. history.

Beyond stand-up, Harvey hosts The Steve Harvey Morning Show, has appeared in films like You Got Served, and authored relationship guidance books. His most notable television show is Family Feud, and his book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man achieved bestseller status.

From 2003 to 2005, he hosted Steve Harvey's Big Time Challenge, followed by the Steve Harvey Show from 2012 to 2017, Celebrity Family Feud starting in 2015, and Little Big Shots from 2016. His hosting of Miss Universe in 2015 gained significant media attention due to an announcement mix-up. Harvey has received multiple accolades, including a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2016, a BET Humanitarian Award in 2011, five Daytime Emmy Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
