Exploring Hollywood: Matt Belloni's New Podcast Launch

Written on

Chapter 1: Introduction to The Town

Matt Belloni is a familiar voice in the realm of Hollywood discourse. For years, he has been a prominent figure alongside Kim Masters on the KCRW entertainment podcast, The Business. Together, they have delved into the intricacies of the entertainment world, covering topics from box office performances of blockbuster films to subscription growth for platforms like HBO Max. Their discussions offer a glimpse into the inner workings of Hollywood.

Belloni, previously the editorial director of The Hollywood Reporter and an entertainment attorney, is set to launch a new podcast titled The Town. This exciting venture is being produced by The Ringer, a Spotify Studio, in collaboration with Puck, the digital media company where Belloni serves as a contributor and founding partner.

In The Town, listeners will gain exclusive access to Hollywood's behind-the-scenes stories. Belloni will provide insights into various topics, ranging from Marvel films to reality TV shows like "The Bachelor." Drawing from his widely-read newsletter, What I'm Hearing, the podcast will cover the current projects in development, industry successes and failures, and the prevalent conversations among entertainment professionals.

The Town with Matthew Belloni is scheduled to debut on Monday, March 14, with new episodes available three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

"Matt possesses an unmatched understanding of Hollywood's dynamics, along with the ability to discuss emerging topics and trends," stated Bill Simmons, founder of The Ringer. "We eagerly wanted to collaborate with him to create a podcast that we ourselves would want to listen to."

"I have long admired the work of Bill and his team at The Ringer," said Belloni. "I am thrilled to partner with them to transform the energy of my newsletter into a podcast that will engage both our audiences."

Throughout my years of following The Business podcast, I have consistently championed its value. My review from June 2020 highlights Belloni's insightful contributions during the "banter" segments, where he showcases his clarity of thought, predictive prowess, and a dash of humor.

Be sure to tune in on March 14th!

The video title is The Hollywood 'content bubble' is coming to an end, says Puck's Matt Belloni. This video features Belloni discussing the evolving landscape of Hollywood content creation and the implications for the industry moving forward.
